Very collectible 800 silver niello locket.  A detailed maze of a design was worked onto both sides of this antique locket.  Niello took a steady hand, patience, and hard work.  The silver is engraved in to a miniscule pattern and design, then a black alloy is added to fill the pattern.  The surface is polished smooth and cleaned.  The locket still has some keepsake tokens from it's previous owner.  Looks like some purple velvet scraps, a tiny heart, and ?  The locket is marked on the side of the bail, however I can not make out the maker's mark.  Looks like a stylized S with another letter running through and lines.  The ring is marked 800.  Measures 1 1/4 inches x 1 inch.  Quite possibly Austrian, of the Jugendstil Arts and Crafts period, circa 1890s.
